One of the biggest mistakes made with Rosacea is, to completely leave the skin alone and not use any product for skin care treatment in fear of inflaming the areas. In the Midwest, in St. Louis Missouri specifically, using products that have parabens or fragrances can cause rosacea flare ups.
Rosacea is chronic inflammation, redness and visible blood vessels in the face caused by abnormal blood vessel response to stimuli. Rosacea may cause redness on the nose, chin, cheeks and forehead. People with rosacea can also develop red solid bumps and pus-filled pimples. The disorder can cause the nose to take on a bulbous, swollen appearance called rhinophyma.
Rosacea affects an estimated 14 million Americans. The cause for Rosacea is not known but there are some theories related to the neuro-vascular system. While there is not a cure for Rosacea, there are skin care treatments available in St. Louis to help with the symptoms. Please see our blog on skin treatments that help treat Inflammation. It is also important to avoid triggers to Rosacea:
- Certain foods.
- Direct or indirect heat, such as the sun or hot baths.
- Weather in Missouri with hot and freezing temperatures and strong winds that change rapidly.
- Harsh skin care products with fragrances or parabens.
- Exercise or sweating.
- Stress or anxiety.
